1. Describe the social advocacy needs of the population you chose for your final course project.(social welfare class)
Describe two advocacy actions you can personally and professional take that could potentially improve the lives of this population. ( included in the attatchment below).
2.Reread your initial posts from both of the Unit 1 discussions. How has your understanding of assessment changed over the last ten weeks? What contributed to your shifts in thinking that have deepened your understanding of this area of addiction treatment practice? (addictions class) discussion 1-In order to successfully understand the client their are skills that help us determine the problem and the solution through respect, understanding, and listening. These counseling skills are important to the assessment process to elicit the most comprehensive information from the client.
One skill that I think is a must is attending behavior and unconditional positive reguard. We need to be able to listen actively, respond appropriately, both verbally and non-verbally for the healing process of our client. If we are a different color, race, gender, or different religion we have to listen to their views and not be biased because of our own views. We need to be on the same page with them as well and be in their shoes, hear what they have to say, see what they see, and feel what they feel. Avoiding stereotype is crucial.
Another skill that is very important is reflection of feelings and responding to emotions. Clients come in very frustrated and confused with mixed emotions. It is the therapist job to dig deeper, understand, and clarify their underlying emotions that they are feeling so that they know how to properly act with those emotions. everything stems from something internally. Exploring those emotions is helpful.
Another skill is to clarify and encourage. When you smile and shake your head, or nod, or say, “uh huh.” You are showing your client that you are listening to them and that you understand and care.
Giving your client reassurance, and pointing out all of the positive views and points about the client or situation will help them open up and they you can give them advice at the end. Listening fully will make them feel like your caring. being non-judgmental will also help them feel like they can be themselves. All of these skill will ensure a successful session with both you and your client.
3.After reviewing the Code of Ethics documents, select one and outline the role ethics plays in the assessment process by citing directly from the chosen code of ethics.
- Which code of ethics did you choose?
- What does the chosen code of ethics state in regards to the assessment process?
- Are there parts of the code of ethics related to assessment that apply to the ASI that was completed in Unit 6 for the client in the chosen case study? (need to login in to capella university for this, username is jackiegifford23@gmail.com and password is 12Joshua!- unit 10 addictions class)
