In a liberal democracy, the purpose of government is to serve the people by looking out for the public’s well-being. How do public agencies fare in these crucial circumstances? What issues and concerns come into play in trying to serve the public?
Students will select a major crisis situation that occurred anytime beginning in the 1960s onward in American history, which the government was responsible for addressing. The purpose of this assignment is to learn about and analyze how public agencies responded to the specific crisis. What agencies/organizations were involved? Were they effective and efficient? Was the response quick and well organized? What lessons can be taken away from the case? In addressing these questions, students will delve into the role of federalism, intergovernmental relations, politics, and governance issues covered within the lectures and reading material as well as material found in the library research.
The final paper will be a minimum of 10 to 12 pages long. Make sure to include peer-reviewed academic references as well as utilize the proper APA format.
