This part of the final project takes it to the “customer-facing” stage.
You may create a poster, a pamphlet, a podcast or video on your topic. It could be a set of lesson plans for kids, a Powerpoint presentation for a professional workshop, an op-ed for a newspaper, a short film — think of what matches your project and skills. What will work best really depends on your topic and target audience. What would be the best way to connect with your specific audience? If you’re thinking of creating something I haven’t listed, if you feel it’s a good idea, I probably do, too.
The APA paper component of the project is the formal writing part. For the presentation part, it does not necessarily need to follow APA style, unless your audience would expect full citations and references. That said, most audiences would benefit from a list of helpful resources.
There is room for creativity in this project. In particular, creative ways of reaching/motivating the audience are important for many of the topics.
You will also upload this presentation for our final week’s discussion, to share with the class.
Scoring categories
1. Formulates important question(s) relevant to the audience. By this point in the sequence of assignments, you most likely have formed the questions – Does your presentation make it clear what the questions are and why they’re relevant?
2. Presents relevant information with an appropriate amount of support (with studies or theories). Because of length concerns you have to choose what to include/exclude from assign #3. Check: Are claims justified with evidence (by empirical findings, theoretical argument, or cite to authority)?
3. Applies the information to give implications of the info in #2 for the question(s) in #2, considers alternatives & caveats.
4. Provides useful solutions and conclusions that the audience can understand both the “how” and “why.” Does it give the target audience specific things to say/do?
5. Communicates effectively and attractively (organized and clear, at the audience’s level).
File format & concerns about accessing:
If you make a pamphlet or poster, saving it in Acrobat (.pdf) format will ensure most viewers can access it. If you make a podcast or vlog, consider uploading it to youtube and sharing a link. If you have it at google drive or Prezi, make sure to set it as public.
