1: After reading this week’s assignment on teamwork, I decided to use an article that is similar to the reading assignment. The article is about “why diverse teams are smarter” researchers in a Harvard Business review found that organizations that hire more diverse groups in management positions see 35% more financial return above their industry mean. And those with top positions when it come to gender diversity see 15 % more on their return above industry mean. The article also concluded that businesses that have more diversity on their teams are more innovative than those teams that are not as diverse. The article concluded that when organizations create a well diverse team of different gender, race, and cultures it can help eliminate team member biases and “make them question their assumptions” all this will lead to a smarter and more successful team. In fact, our text (pg. 193) states that, “research have shown research shows that other differences may be even more critical to a team’s success” (Bucher, 2015).

2:Symetra Life Insurance Company created a list outlining commitments in their Symetra Empowers Inclusion program. The list focuses on diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and works to build a better establishment to confront racial injustice. In addition, they announced a $50,000 donation to the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. This is part of giving back to community-based organizations, especially those that work with racial equity and/or social justice. Symetra have made known their focus is on five areas they want to commit to. They include: People, Customers, Communities, Advocacy and Leadership. In the near future, we hope to see the improvement in these areas with the help of Symetra.
