I NEED A GRADE OF B OR BETTER
Your final assignment is an argumentative, research paper where you will take a side on a controversy (a debatable topic) and that uses a thesis-driven structure to organize your argument. This assignment is the culmination of the work we have done so far in our class, so I expect for it to be the best piece of writing you have submitted, as by the time you have submitted this assignment you will have my feedback on two major assignments, discussions, and drafts already. This means I expect you to consider the feedback I provided on your genre assignment, the feedback I advised you on your narrative assignment, and the feedback I provided on your drafts.
I am hoping that the work you put into your last assignment and on your research will contribute to the way you frame your argument. Please feel free to use both informal research in this final paper, as well as formal citations (journal articles), they can both have a space in the assignment.Try to stay away from papers that weigh the pros and cons of an issue without taking a side, that argue for the complicated nature of some issue, or that merely informs the reader of an issue. The point of this assignment is to write a persuasive, organized argument for a side of a controversy that integrates research according to MLA format, an argument that utilizes ethos, pathos, and logos, which also considers the conditions of rebuttal of the opposing side of the argument and responds accordingly. Strong papers will have a concise, and comprehensive thesis that takes a Stance on a Topic and shows the major points of Evidence (STE), in the sequence of the organization of the forthcoming argument. It will also employ Topic Sentences that echo the Thesis Statement (displaying the Stance taken on a Topic and the specific piece of Evidence focused on) and Transition Statements (sentences that signal the shift in focus from one piece of evidence to the next).
This paper should be written in 3rd person (no use of the pronouns “I, me, you, we, us, our, your, me, and mine”).It should be written in MLA format, utilizing a heading on the first page (Student name, professor name, class name, and date), a centered title that isn’t underlined or bolded and is the same font as the rest of the paper, be written in Times new Roman Font 12, and contain a student’s last name and page number in the header on all pages. It should also have Works Cited Page on the last page of the assignment; this page isn’t counted in the 4-5 page, double spaced, page minimum.
The paper should include the use of five sources, two of which must be scholarly, academic journal articles. The paper may include more than five sources, but try to keep your words and quoted material to a 75/25 ratio at max, ideally 80/20 at best. Please make sure to use parenthetical citations according to MLA format throughout your argument, and to use a variety of methods for integrating your sources.
