Participate in the Discussion board by clicking on the Discussiontab on your Course Home menu, or by following the link above.
There are 4 discussions. You may choose any 1 to answer. While you should incorporate the content of assigned textbook readings and do additional scholarly research (to earn a high mark on the Reflection of Readings element), I discourage exclusive quoting or paraphrasing of the material. Instead, I ask you to present your own understanding of the information by sharing your knowledge and incorporating the information you learned. Be sure to extend that subject knowledge with examples and own explanations.
Your main posts are due by Wednesday of this week for maximum participation credit.
In addition to your main discussion, you are required to reply to at least 2 classmates in a discussion NOT selected for your main post (this means that if you choose to create a main post in “Empowerment,” then you should reply to classmates in any two of the other three threads – this is required, and responses posted to the same discussion you submitted your main post to will not be counted for peer credit. Responses to your classmates are due by Sunday.
Finally, please follow up on responses from the instructor or your peers (in addition to your required two classmate replies) to show a Distinguished effort and to remain fully engaged throughout the learning week.
“Coaching and providing feedback for improved performance”
- Consider your “Feedback” chapter, and reflect on what you learned about providing feedback to others. Explore the meaning of the quote, “Many receive advice; only the wise profit from it,” using communication concepts we learned thus far in this class. Finally, consider the information presented in your Week 4 Lesson on . Make sure your response offer a detailed examination of communication strategies, and considers opposing perspectives. Develop your examples and supporting evidence thoroughly.
Complete your discussion by exploring how you might use the knowledge from this topic in your future professional and personal communication.
NOTE: Remember that your discussion response must include the following:
- A reflection on the concept we are discussing. Give us a summary of things you learned about this concept from your assigned chapter readings and additional research.
A thorough example/discussion to support your reflection.
A final statement that tells us what you take away from this week’s lesson.
Properly formatted in-text citations and references.
- Strong grammar, spelling, and mechanics.
In total your discussion should be at least 250 words.
When responding to your peers, be sure to connect on both personal and theoretical level by reacting to what was said, supporting your reactions with scholarly sources (e.g., your textbook), and identifying potential additional concepts or communication strategies to consider. End your responses with open-ended questions to extend conversations.

RE: Coaching and providing feedback for improved performance
The idea of creating a culture of recognition is to reward and appreciate your employees for their work and successes. Employee recognition is defined as the ways an organization shows its appreciation for its employees contribution. There are many different things employees can be recognized for such as going above and beyond expectations, new achievements, and overall hard work. There are several different ways an employer can show appreciation to their employees such as pay raise, words of appreciation, awards and many more. Employee recognition helps with several different things like employers retaining a top talent, increased employee engagement, and encouraging high performance. No one wants to do a lot of hard work or go above and beyond for someone that does not appreciate their efforts or recognize them. Employees who never receive any recognition or reward for their hard work are much likelier to work less hard and put in less effort. After all, if you are treated the same for working hard as you are for doing the bare minimum, there is not much point in trying harder than you need to. In a survey done about what employees want more of in the workplace the highest response was that they wanted recognition for their work. Now I will be talking about the quote “many receive advice; only the wise profit from it.” To me, this quote means that everyone can get the same advice, but it gives you nothing of value if you do not use the tools you are given.
